PML-N President (Overseas) Qari Shakeel has submitted application for issuing new passports on behalf of Mian Nawaz Sharif, his wife Kulsoom Nawaz and 17 family members to Pakistan Consul General, Jeddah.
The sources said that the Consul General had accepted and verified the documents and agreed to issue passport but there was a condition of provision of computerised national identity cards (CNICs).
It was said that according to policy of the Pakistan government, fresh passports could not be issued against old national identity cards.
The sources said that if family of Mian Nawaz Sharif provided the Consul General with the computerised ID cards they could be issued new passports, but the tenure of these passports would be one year instead of five years.
It may be recalled that the Pakistan government has agreed to issue passport to Mian Nawaz Sharif and his family on humanitarian grounds, because they wanted to proceed to London to see the ailing son of Mian Nawaz Sharif, Hassan Nawaz.
The passport of Mian Nawaz Sharif had expired on March 22, 2002 while the passport of Kulsoom Nawaz was expired on May 1, 2003, the sources added.
